Vocational high school students’ identity and investment in learning English in a rural area

چکیده

This study explored vocational high school (VHS) students’ identity and investment during their English learning in the class at a private VHS rural area. The aim of this was to understand how student impacted English. also attempted seek factors that influenced To answer research questions study, narrative method applied. involved six students from VHS. data were collected through semi-structured interviews focus group discussions which used explore results revealed had different ideas about learning. They are outside classroom, necessity for future career, reluctant English, perspective on self. participants’ hindered by five such as teaching method, inconvenient classroom environment, lack knowledge, family, peer support, having part time job. need support encourage them commit investing effort improving language skills. implication is importance teachers encouraging learners’ order achieve desirable outcomes.
